In one Australian study carried out in 1998, the prevalence of sexually transmitted bacterial infections was 80 times greater in 63 illegal street prostitutes than in 753 of their legal brothel counterparts (“STDs”). This study shows that legalizing prostitution would decrease sexually transmitted diseases. With lower rates of STDs and HIV/AIDS, our country as a whole would be a safer place. Prostitution is legal in Australia and its sex workers have very low rates of STDs and HIV, and most have better sexual health than the general community. Also the economy in Australia is doing well with prostitution legalized.
